What to Expect at Your First Wig Fitting
What to Expect at Your First Wig Fitting
If you've never had a professional wig fitting before, it's natural to feel unsure about what to expect. At EA HAIR, we want every client to feel comfortable and confident from the moment they walk in. Here's a full walkthrough of what your first appointment looks like.
Before Your Appointment
You don't need to prepare much. Come with your natural hair as flat as possible — braided, flat-twisted or in cornrows is ideal, as this gives the wig the smoothest base to sit on. If you're not sure how to prepare, let us know when you book and we can advise.
It helps to have a rough idea of the look you're going for — length, texture, colour — but it's not essential. Bringing reference photos is always welcome.
The Consultation
Every fitting starts with a short consultation. We'll ask about your lifestyle, how often you plan to wear the wig, whether you'll be styling it yourself or coming back to us, and any concerns you have about fit, comfort or appearance.
This is also where we discuss your options — lace front vs HD lace, ready-to-wear vs custom, length and density. We'll make recommendations based on your face shape, skin tone and hair goals.
Taking Your Measurements
We measure your head to ensure the wig cap fits correctly. This takes about five minutes and covers circumference, front-to-nape length, ear-to-ear width and nape width. If you're having a custom unit made, these measurements form the basis of your cap construction.
The Fitting
Once we've selected the right unit, we fit the wig and make any immediate adjustments — trimming the lace, customising the hairline, bleaching knots if needed, and securing the cap. We'll show you how to put the wig on and take it off yourself, and how to adjust the fit at home.
Styling
After fitting, we style the wig to suit your face and the look you came in for. This might mean a trim, adding layers, curling, straightening or adding baby hairs. You'll leave with the wig on and ready to wear.
Aftercare Advice
Before you go, we'll walk you through how to care for your specific unit — washing frequency, products to use, how to store it overnight and when to come back for a maintenance appointment.
How Long Does a Wig Fitting Take?
Allow 1.5–3 hours for a full fitting and styling appointment, depending on the complexity of the unit and styling required. Custom consultations are a separate appointment and typically take 30–45 minutes.
